Welcome to my Teaching Portfolio.

Teaching Philosophy

Three aspirations motivate my teaching: (1) Producing informed citizens capable of critical thinking; (2) generating excitement about the joy of discovery; and (3) challenging students to be sensitive to the importance of context as an aspect of psychological science with implications for their development of interpersonal skills.

More broadly, I believe that people learn best when they are faced with challenges in a supportive environment.

I use different pedagogical methods in the different contexts in which I teach (e.g., lecture class, seminar). These choices reflect my interest as a psychologist in the ways that context shapes and is shaped by human activity. Specific links above describe my approach to teaching in different contexts.

Teaching Interests and Responsibilities

I am interested in teaching a variety of courses in the areas of personality, psychopathology, and clinical-counseling psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition to courses that I have already taught, I have specific interests in teaching courses in health psychology, stress and coping, and advanced graduate seminars in personality test construction and validation, emotion, and research methods in personality and psychopathology.
