Assignment 2 Due Week 12 (Nov.
7 & 8)
Your general task is to identify the principal sections and communication
functions of those sections of a journal report of psychological research.
That is, name the sections and say what is generally communicated in each
section. Basically, I want you to abstract from your reading the
following information: the major sections common to all journal articles
and a short description of the kinds of information that are communicated
in each section.
You should include answers to these kinds of questions:
- What is the research question?
- How will the author(s) answer the research question?
- Do the authors make a hypothesis? If so, what is it?
- What type of research method did the authors use?
- Do you think the data collection method used in the study qualifies
as naturalistic observation? Why or why not?
- What was measured in the study and how was it measured?
- What was the operational definition of Òscientific explanation for
this study?
- Based on the results, what answer did the authors get to their
research question?
- What is the main piece of information learned by this study?
- Based on what was learned, what real world application does this
study have?
Note:To read and print out these articles you will need to be
able
to read PDF files. This can be done with Adobe Acrobat Reader (download here
- this site is sometimes very slow. You can also try here and type in adobe acrobat reader in
the search field).
