Where and When?

Course Description & Objective.

Application of computer technology to psychology. In particular, the course will focus on using a word processor (MS-Word), a spreadsheet program (MS-Excel), an e-mail program (Eudora), and a presentation program (MS-PowerPoint). Special emphasis will be placed on the use of computer statistical packages to analyze psychological data (SPSS). If time permits, towards the end of the semester, we will also look at a computer program designed to make and run psychology experiments (Psyscope).

Course Requirements.

Each student will be evaluated based on their performance on homework exercises (usually one per week); two take home exams, and a project proposal. Homework will count for 30% of your final grade, the first take-home exam will be worth 20%, and the second take-home exam will be worth 25%. The research project will be worth 25% of your final grade. Homeworks are typically due the week following coverage of a particular topic in class. Some will be turned in on disk, others on paper, and some over e-mail (and there may even be a combination of these different methods). The research project assignment will be a group project, with a presentation component and an APA style written component. More details about this project will be discussed later in the course.

Class Policies

• If you are going to miss a quiz or an exam it is critically important that you notify me AS SOON AS YOU KNOW that you'll be absent and WHY. Call, e-mail, or talk to me in person. Make-ups are very rarely given without prior notification of an absences. Opportunity to make-up the missed work requires prior notification of the absence and an excused absence (that is one that you instructor accepts as reasonable and legitimate). How and when the work will be made up will be determined by the instructor.
  
• You are expected to do your own work. Plagiarism and cheating of any sort will not be tolerated. Either behavior will result in a grade of 'F'. Note that cheating includes copying another student's homework. Making up false excuses for absences will also be considered cheating and may result in a grade of 'F' for missed work.
  
• And finally, if you have any questions regarding anything in the syllabus and or the course in general, please feel free to ask. Talk to me in class, via phone, or e-mail. Don't just assume that you know (or should know) the answer, I may not have been clear enough or may have forgotten to mention something.

The lab in room 13A of DeGarmo Hall (Macintosh lab) will be open and staffed at the following times. Please refer to the schedule on the door of 13A until such time as I get all the hours posted here.
